Public Campaign Action Fund and Common Cause are planning a series of demonstrations this summer–dubbed the “summer of (fun)draisers”–using Party Time as a resource to find out where the events are taking place. Both the organizations advocate for public financing of elections, specifically The Fair Elections Now Act.
The groups are planning their first protest forĀ Rep. Gregg Harper’s (R-Miss.) annual “Mississippi Fish Fry” on Thursday. Common Cause President Bob Edgar points out the irony: “Globs of oil and poisoned fish are washing up on beaches in his state and a cherished way of life for thousands of Mississippians is in peril, but Representative Harper, like all of members of Congress, is forced to keep raising money for his re-election bid.” The groups also called attention to tonight’s “9th annual crawfish fest” fundraiser for Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) (Here’s a quick way to see which fundraisers feature fish as part of the entertainment/consumption: click here: http://politicalpartytime.org/search/Entertainment_Type/fish/)
Over at the Public Campaign Action Fund, Adam Smith is writing a lively blog highlighting fundraisers as they show up on Party Time. For example, he points out that a golf tournament benefiting Rep. Rodney Alexander (R-La.) –and featuring Denny Rehberg (R-Mont.)–is at the Country Club at Woodmore in Mitchellville, MD, which used to boast convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff as a member. (In a side note, Abramoff was just released from prison today.)
Disclosure: I used to work at Public Campaign. The Sunlight Foundation does not take any position on campaign finance reform legislation, but applauds any activities that bring transparency to the fundraising process.

We also post information we receive about parties where members of Congress are expected to participate—such as convention or inaugural parties.
Since we don't hear about all the parties, you can also tell us if you know where the party is and we don't.
